Nauyaca Galleria La inauguración en la Galería Nauyaca fue muy agradable, con bebidas, aperitivos y un pianista en vivo (gracias, Manuel). La entrada es gratuita y la exposición estará abierta de 11 a 3 y de 5 a 9 hasta el 12 de febrero. Los detalles del lugar están aquí. EL ÚLTIMO DE LOS VOCHOS
Han pasado casi 60 años desde que el primer Beetle o "Vocho" salió de la línea de producción en México. Mi exposición muestra la ciudad como un lugar con un solo tipo de vehículo: las coloridas curvas del Vocho. Este auto clásico ha sido parte integral de la vida mexicana durante generaciones. Pero en las calles de Europa, este auto clásico es ahora una rareza.
Su aspecto aerodinámico y simétrico lo ha hecho atemporal e inmediatamente reconocible, incluso en su silueta. Me intriga que tantas versiones aún circulen por las carreteras de San Cristóbal de las Casas, en diferentes estilos de este singular vehículo. Es adorado por todas las generaciones, desde el auto familiar hasta las apreciadas versiones personalizadas de los jóvenes.
El último Vocho se fabricó en México hace más de 20 años, así que ¿cuánto tiempo pasará antes de que desaparezca de las carreteras?
Paul O'Connor nació en Dublín y comenzó su carrera como fotógrafo deportivo en Irlanda. Se convirtió en cineasta documental en Londres, donde produjo investigaciones premiadas sobre abusos ambientales y de derechos humanos. Durante sus visitas anuales a México, comenzó a documentar a los Vochos.

Last of the classic VW Beetle
It is nearly 60 years since the first Beetle or ‘Vocho' rolled off the production line in Mexico. My exhibition depicts the town as having only one type of vehicle- the colourful curves of the Vocho. The vintage car has been an integral part of Mexican life for generations. But on the streets of Europe the classic car is a now a rarity.
The streamlined, symmetrical look of the car has made it timeless and instantly recognisable, even in silhouette. I am intrigued that so many versions are still on the roads of San Cristobal del las Casas in many different styles of the unique vehicle. It is loved by all generations, from the family car to the cherished customised versions of the young.The last Vocho was produced in Mexico more than 20 years ago so just how long before we see the vehicle disappear from the roads?
