On the Push (Eco-Surfing) Rising sea levels are damaging coastlines & reefs
worldwide. On the Push will be reporting every month discovering what this
means to surfers.
What impact does surfing have on the climate and the
climate have on our surf?
AWARD
WINNING WELSH FILM DUO JOIN FORCES Surf
instructor & film maker Anne Gallagher joins Undercurrents news agency co-founder
Helen iles. The duo go on a 12 month journey
to challenge the surf industry to be more eco-friendly.
Why?
Rising sea levels because of global warming could lead to a loss of waves at low
tides, oceans may become more acidic, choking the life out of our playgrounds
and making it a lonely place to surf or sail. And the prospect of a reprieve for
nuclear power could result in more localised pollution from radioactive discharges
and signs posted from environmental agencies saying not to use the water for recreation.
There is much to be concerned about but there are solutions.
Who is
active? SAS
has embraced offshore renewable energy technology and is campaigning for its
use in strategic areas of the UK to help meet our renewable energy targets set
down by the Kyoto protocol and because it can offer a long term solution to meet
our energy needs and protect the water we use for recreation.
Who
are we? Undercurrents is an award winning charity producing
and distributing videos reflecting the UK & global counter-culture.
We are a 100% non-profit company working with activists marginalised or overlooked
