Press Release:
Radical Media Producers win Awards.

On Friday 25th November political animators, artists and filmmakers won awards in an international festival. The MISTY awards celebrate media producers who are using their skills for positive social change.

Wearing sparkling dresses and balaclavas 3 members of the National Suburban Liberation Generation made their first public appearance to collect their MISTY award. The group received national acclaim for converting their rural Welsh bus shelter into a comfortable waiting area with table lamp, carpet and flowers.

In front of an international audience of 150 people in Swansea, Tamara Gordon from Hay on Wye won best Local History Video for her documentary about life in a border town. London based Manu Luskch won an award for producing a film using only images collected from some of the 1million CCTV cameras covering the UK.

The awards ceremony launched the 6th annual BeyondTv international video festival which took place that same weekend. The Awards had plenty of humour as awards were presented for 'The 'Best use of a Cream Pie' for last months targeting of 'Top Gear's' Jeremy Clarkson. The TV presenter has publicly stated that he has a disregard for the environment.

TV comedian Mark Thomas and rap artists Goldie Lookin' chain are also amongst the 14 winners. The musicians banned from the BBC world music awards for their stance against the Iraq war also received a MISTY award. Seize the Day from Somerset were ejected from the 2003 awards ceremony despite gaining the most public votes.

Host of the MISTY awards Helen Iles said today,
'The MISTYs aim to celebrate how media can be used for much more than just entertainment. Images from a camcorder or a digital camera can educate and inspire us to looking differently at our world. It was tremendous having so many people travel from all over the world to take part in the first MISTY awards.'
