What is BeyondTV?
Undercurrents present a full programme of short movies, documentaries, music videos & animation from inspiring media producers.
All films will have a theme of social or environmental activism. Hosted in the very heart of Swansea Marina, BeyondTV promises to be an entertaining week with all proceeds going to to support the charity work of undercurrents.

Where is BeyondTv being held?
Just an 8 minute walk from both Swansea train & bus station at
Dylan Thomas Centre

Somerset Place
Swansea Marina SA1 1RR
Except for Friday evening where we move to Monkey Cafe opposite Swansea castle for the BeyondTv party.

What's can I expect to see & hear ?
Inspiring media workshops, superb home grown & global films, funky music, comedians, food & drink a plenty.

When can I go Beyond TV?
The festival opens Monday November 27th at 18.30pm and every evening until Thursday November 30th.
Friday December 1st is the BeyondTv party with films.
The main festival day is Saturday December 2nd which begins at 14.00 until 22.00

A small community in Rossport, Co. Mayo, Ireland, are resisting Shell's attempts to construct a high pressure gas pipeline and refinery across their land.

'This Revolution' (Welsh Premier) 90mins USA
Conceived as a docu-drama political thriller,This Revolution, was developed, written, cast, shot and edited in 100 days. The story follows Jake Cassevetes (Nathan Crooker), a TV video journalist just returned from Iraq. When he falls in love with Tina Santiago (Rosario Dawson), a young mother widowed after her husband was killed in Iraq, Jake is forced to question his world-view. But it is not until he discovers his network has given his videotape of an anarchist protest group to Homeland Security that Jake decides to take action.

Favela Rising (80mins) Brazil/ USA Subtitled
This Oscar-nominated documentary was vividly shot on digital video in the streets of Rio, Brazil. Telling the inspirational story of a former drug dealer who galvanized his violence-plagued community with music and dance. Together with DJ Jose Junior, Anderson Sa set up the AfroReggae group, which fused hip-hop, reggae and African-Brazilian sounds, played packed local concerts and later acquired an international record deal. Crucially they also founded cultural workshops which provided young people from the ghetto with self-empowering alternatives to the criminal world. Favela Rising is an important reminder of how human beings can unite to effect grass-roots social change.

In the 1980's Ian Bone founded an anarchist newspaper 'Class War' selling 15,000 copies every week. He was labeled by one tabloid newspaper as "the most dangerous man in Britain". He started his first anarchist paper, Alarm, in Swans and has just released a book about his life.

Guidelines for entering your film or animation into BEYONDTV 2006
1. The theme of your subvert, animation or documentary should be social or environmental action. No dramas using actors will be chosen.
2. Ideally each film should be at least 30 seconds and no longer than 60 minutes in length
3. The film can be recorded using any type of format but the entry should be on miniDV/DVCAM/Hi8, Beta SP or DVD (PAL)
4. Please label each tape with the name of the film along with contact name, phone number, postal and e-mail address of the director or producer. Please also supply a short summary of the film.
5. The festival is non-competitive but there may be special awards this year. There is no fee to enter your film .
6. Post entries to undercurrents old exchange, pier st swansea SA1 1RY UK
7. Undercurrents accepts no responsibility for any late,lost or damaged entries.
8. If you would like your entry returned please enclose an SAE with the correct amount of postage with your entry.
9. We cannot guarantee to screen all films but if your film is chosen we will notify you in advance.
10.Screenings: all chosen film-makers will receive a pair of complimentary tickets but you need to be prepared to travel to the venue at your own expense.
